Through SCKG Design, I bring together different parts of my experience: the storytelling instincts of theatre, the scale and energy of live events, and a practical understanding of how ambitious environments are realized.

Sebastien Grouard

I began my career in theatre, where I learned to think about design as a form of storytelling—using space, scale, texture, light, and detail to create a world and shape an audience’s experience. In 2008, my work began to move into events and experiential design, which has since become the primary focus of my practice.

What draws me into a project is the process of finding the ideas that need to be communicated and discovering the clearest, most engaging way to express them through design. Whether the experience lasts an evening or an entire week, I want every element of the environment to support those ideas and contribute to a cohesive experience. Over the years, my work has ranged from intimate installations to large-scale branded experiences, including projects for San Diego Comic-Con and the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France. As a bilingual French and English speaker, I’m equally comfortable collaborating with teams in both languages.

My approach is rooted in both design and making. Early in my career, I worked as a carpenter, scenic artist, and scenic charge, experiences that gave me a hands-on understanding of materials, fabrication, finishes, and the realities of construction. That foundation continues to inform the way I design today.

I also have extensive experience in drafting and 3D modeling, allowing me to develop a project from its earliest conceptual stages through detailed design and documentation. I’m always thinking about how an idea will ultimately be realized, how its pieces come together, and how a drawing or model translates into a finished environment.

I enjoy being involved throughout that process—working closely with producers, fabricators, scenic shops, and other creative collaborators to solve problems, refine ideas, and carry the design successfully from concept through realization.
